Hon. Ruth Nvumetta Kavuma

Hon. Ruth Nvumetta Kavuma is the Vice Chairperson of the National Identification and Registration Authority(NIRA).  The former member of the Ugandan Parliament joined the Network of African Ministers and Parliamentarians – Uganda Chapter, of which she is still a member. Whilst in Parliament, she was on the Finance Committee where she advocated for sufficient resourcing for reproductive health commodities.

Hon. Kavuma is a founding member and first Chairperson of Board for the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) – Uganda Chapter, an organization that works on girl child education.

Hon. Ruth Kavuma was the first African Headmistress of Gayaza High School from 1990 to 2002.

Ruth Kavuma joined Gayaza Junior School in 1963 and Gayaza High School in 1970, residing in Cannalily (Kivebulaaya). She was a Prefect and Played Volleyball.

She is a former Chairperson of Mama Alive Initiatives (MAI), an organization that helps the youth to communicate openly about reproductive and HIV/AIDs issues via social media.  Hon. Kavuma now works with other MPs in the regions, sharing experiences of financing for RH/FP in Parliament.

She was also a member of the Network of Women Parliamentarians in Uganda.

Hon. Ruth Kavuma is a Rotatrian, Rotary Club of Kampala Ssese islands, Past President & Past Governor. She chaired  the Construction of the Mengo Hospital Rotary Bank, which is functional now.

Hon. Kavuma is also a board member of Concern for the Girl Child Uganda; a Ugandan based Non-Government Organization (NGO) that started in 2001 with the aim of empowering vulnerable children especially the girl child. She is a member of Kisaakate Kya Nnabagereka Board.
