Joy Namayanja joined Gayaza High School in 1988 and was a member of Sherborne and Kennedy house in O and A level respectively.
She had the privilege of being part of the prestigious Gayaza Singers and Christian Club choirs because of her love for music!
Ms. Namayanja returned to the school to teach English Language and Literature in 1997.
During her stay, she was a class teacher of S.1J and S.1N, Patron Debate Club, and S1 Bible Study Group.
Through the amazing mentorship of Mrs. Ruth Nvumetta Kavuma, the Headmistress then, Joy developed a keen interest in promoting the right to education of the girl child. Her role in the Debate club opened up opportunities for young members to participate in several children’s rights events.
Ms. Joy left Gayaza in 2003 to pursue postgraduate studies in Human Rights then joined the Humanitarian Sector to continue her dream of enhancing girls’ and Women’s education in development. She held various roles in international organizations such as YMCA England, Child Rights Information Network(CRIN), ActionAid International, Human Rights Watch and is currently working at Save the Children UK as a Humanitarian Operations Officer.
She is a board member of Gayaza Alumnae Network and believes in training a girl to train a village.
Joy is born on 26th October!
