Mrs Joy Male

Mrs. Joy Male joined Gayaza as a student in 1959 came back as a teacher in 1970 and of course, was Headmistress from 2001 to 2006. What a Gayaza Girl!
Mrs. Male is an Alumna of both Gayaza Junior and Gayaza Junior schools having started her primary education at Kings College Budo till P5 when she joined the Gayaza community.
She appreciates Ms. Joan Cox, her Headmistress throughout, and Ms. Sheelagh Warren her Corby housemistress.
As Headmistress, Joy achieved a lot in Gayaza, She introduced Technical drawing as a subject in the curriculum, completed the construction of Rhoda Nsibambi House, re-roofing of Kivebulaya, Cox and Kivebulaya houses, Renovation of the HSC block, started the office of Deans for the lower, middle and upper school.
Also, Mrs. Male revived the Sunday uniform and MDD activities and renamed GAPA(Gayaza Performing Arts), started the computerized report system, introduced and started the staff saving scheme and so many more! We celebrate you indeed!
Mrs. Male holds a Masters in Education Degree from Manchester University, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction; a Post Graduate Diploma and Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree in Geography from Makerere University.
Her wide experience in Education has boosted her administration.
This exceptional lady has been a teacher, senior teacher, lecturer and has headed other secondary schools like Nakersero Secondary School, Mengo Senior School and Makerere College School.
She has been a member of Boards of Governors and a PTA member of many schools serving as Chairperson or Executive Committee. She has served on other boards like Pallee Moeller Foundation, Project Development and Rehabilitation Board as well as Uganda National Examinations Board.
It is interesting to note that she was a Centenary Head teacher twice in her career; in 1995 at Mengo Senior School and in 2005 at Gayaza High School. She retired from Gayaza at the age of 60 years in April 2006. She remained active up to date.
